Webtoons are fun little digital comic strips that originated in South Korea. One of the main platforms that help to distribute these artful stories is the Line Webtoon App. Here's a list of my top 5 webcomics in 2018. Enjoy!

1. Super Secret by eon

(ongoing)

If you love dogs, romance, comedy, mythical creatures, or all of the above, you will love Super Secret! A sweet but clueless teenage girl named Emma is neighbors with her childhood friend, Ryan. Little does she know that he has been hiding a (super) secret this entire time... he is actually a werewolf! Unlike the vicious werewolf often seen in movies, this one is more of a huge, lovable dog! Like all love stories, there are ups and downs, but most importantly, moments that will make you were wish you were inside the webtoon yourself. If you are looking for a story to make you blush or a little pick me up to make you giggle, this is for you. Also if you love dogs like me, highly recommended!

One of the first things that drew me into the webcomic was the insanely cute artwork and fresh color palette. Unlike most of the art on the Line App that resemble anime (aka huge eyes, different proportions, etc.) this one consists of simple yet adorable characters with playful patterns incorporated in each and every scene. Definitely one of my favorite artists on the app! Not to mention, Ryan is by far my favorite male lead in any webtoon I have read so far!

2. Bastard by Youngchan Hwang/Carnby Kim

ree

(ended)

Unlike the other lovey dovey webtoons on this list, Bastard takes love and twists it into the best gut wrenching and horror filled story on the app. Most father and son duos take fishing trips by the lake or bond over their love for Marvel comics, but not here! Jin grows up assisting his father to murder people in the comfort of their own home! However, this all changes once Jin's lover becomes his fathers one and only target to kill. Will Jin turn into his deadly dad or will he fight against him? Find out in this webcomic today!

This is the first webtoon I ever read and LOVED IT. The monotone color palette really helps to create the suspense all throughout the webtoon and the art is simply gorgeous (and scary at times). If you are looking for a dark storyline, beautifully creepy visuals, and a webcomic you can binge this weekend, this is for you! I managed to read this entire series in less than a week... and I loved every second of it!

3. I Love Yoo by Quimchee

(ongoing)

One of the most popular webtoons on the Line App, I Love Yoo is a love triangle comedy that is guaranteed to make you laugh! Shin-Ae, a girl who wants nothing to do with romance, finds herself in the middle of a love triangle one night when she ruins the clothes of a masked man. Follow the hilarious and heart throbbing journey of a young women who thinks love is for everyone but herself. You are bound to find yourself blushing at the romance, your stomach aching from laughter, and yourself wanting more!

This is honestly one of the most relatable webtoons I have ever read, I died of laughter every episode. Each character has so much personality, you are bound to find yourself rooting for one of them (I love them all!). One of my favorite things about this webtoon is that the characters have the best facial expressions ever (especially Shin-Ae). As one of the top series on the app, this webtoon has truly proven itself worthy!

4. Refund High by LICO

ree

(ongoing)

One of the newer webtoons on this list, Refund High School tells the story of 4 teens who get into an fatal accident and end up in a world between heaven and hell. In order to make up for their mistakes, they are forced to attend school for 4 years before returning back to the real world. Here they encounter a variety of monsters born from a wild imagination, from a beautiful make-up loving koi fish to a mysterious dragon boy, there is bound to be someone for you! Similar to the movie Halloween Town, this series shows what it is like for humans and monsters to mix and mingle all under the crazy setting of high school!

I absolutely adore the artwork in this webtoon! Each and every character has something special about them (personality wise and physically) that keeps you interested. Fantasy and creativity ooze out of this webtoon making it a fun and refreshing read. I swear every chapter introduces a new eligible bachelor or absurd monster to keep you on your toes and add a twist to the storyline. So far, this webtoon shows an amazing balance of sweet and quirky that I love!

5. Let's Play by Mongie

ree

(ongoing)

Sam, an up and coming video game creator finds herself in a pit of trouble when her first game is bashed by famous blogger, Marshal Law. Deeply disappointed by the results, she comes home one day to find out that the man who ruined her dreams is moving in next door! Will she be able to confront her obnoxious new neighbor or will she give up on her dreams?

The art in this webtoon is spectacular. Every panel is detailed with depth that will make you do a double take. You might just forget you are reading a webtoon and think you are watching a tv show instead! If you are a gamer, I definitely recommend this webtoon for you! (Not to mention Sam's adorable puppy that will reel you right back in right when the drama gets rough)

Thank you for reading! If you have any recommendations for the next webtoon I should read, feel free to leave me a message!
